A note on insurance for couples therapy
Insurance is accepted for individual therapy only. Insurance providers require one person to be labeled as the “identified patient,” which doesn't align with how we view relational dynamics — as a system, not one individual's sole responsibility. Because of this, we are unable to bill insurance for couples therapy and offer private pay options only. We appreciate your understanding and are happy to discuss this further during your consultation.
I never want cost to be the reason someone doesn't get help. If you have questions about affordability, let's talk.
Insurance
I'm in-network with several major insurance providers. Coverage varies by plan, so I always recommend calling your insurance company to verify your mental health benefits before your first session.
How to Check Your Coverage
Call the number on the back of your insurance card
Ask: 'Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?'
Ask: 'Is Dominique Elya, LPC, or Athena Counseling Services, LLC in my network?'
Ask: 'What is my copay or coinsurance for a 50-minute therapy session?'
Ask: 'Do I have a deductible, and has it been met?'
Out-of-Network Benefits
If I'm not in your insurance network, you may still be able to get reimbursed for a significant portion of each session. Here's how it works:
You pay my full session rate at the time of service
I provide you with a superbill — a detailed receipt with all the codes your insurance needs
You submit the superbill to your insurance company
Your insurance reimburses you directly based on your out-of-network benefits
Many clients are surprised by how much their plan actually covers. It's worth checking — you might be leaving money on the table.
Payment
Payment is due at the time of service. I accept:
Credit / Debit Card
HSA / FSA Cards
Cash
Check
All payments are processed securely through my client portal.
Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your medical care will cost. This applies to all patients, whether or not you use insurance.
You can ask your healthcare provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, and the provider is required to give you one. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
For more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
