Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here are answers to the ones I hear most — and if yours isn't listed, don't hesitate to reach out.
The first session is all about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what brought you to therapy, a bit about your background, and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. You don't need to have it all figured out — just come as you are. Think of it as a conversation, not an evaluation.
Sessions are 50 minutes. Most clients come weekly, especially in the beginning, because that's when the momentum matters most. As you start feeling more grounded, we can shift to biweekly or as-needed. We'll figure out the rhythm that works best for you.
Yes — I'm in-network with several insurance providers. Contact me or check with your insurance company to confirm your plan's coverage. If I'm not in your network, I can provide a superbill so you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients are surprised by how much their out-of-network benefits actually cover.
My standard rate for a 50-minute individual therapy session is provided during the consultation. I believe in transparency around cost, so we'll talk through everything — including insurance options — before you commit to anything. I offer sliding-scale private pay rates (meaning, it can be based on income level).
Yes. I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions. Virtual therapy is a great option if you have a busy schedule, don't live nearby, or simply feel more comfortable talking from home. Research supports that the quality of work is the same whether in-person or virtual.
Great question. 'Therapist' and 'counselor' are often used interchangeably and typically refer to licensed professionals (like me — an LPC) who provide talk therapy. A psychologist holds a doctoral degree and can also conduct psychological testing. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication. I focus on therapy — the talking, processing, and tools side of mental health care.
If something in your life feels off — if you're struggling, stuck, overwhelmed, or just not feeling like yourself — therapy is worth exploring. You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to start. Sometimes the best time to begin is when you first notice that things could be better.
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows are subject to a fee. Life happens — I get that — but consistent attendance is important for your progress, and this policy helps protect your time and mine.
No. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I provide therapy only. If medication might be helpful, I can refer you to a trusted psychiatrist or prescriber who I collaborate with. Many clients find that therapy alone is enough, and others benefit from a combination of both.
I'm located in [City, State] — office address and directions will be provided when you book. I also offer telehealth sessions for clients who prefer virtual therapy or live outside the immediate area.
